Hierarchical Training Architectures

posted on

Manager Profiles now include Node Membership. When Learners become Members of a Profile node, Managers of that profile have the authority to enroll content and run reports on the associated Members and all Members associated with sub profile/nodes as well. Node Membership enables both parallel and/or hierarchical training structures.

Manager Profiles, when viewed as a tree structure, can represent:

  • Different companies or clients hosted on your LMS
  • A corporate training hierarchy within a single company
  • Different companies, each with their own hierarchy

Node Membership

Node Membership provides a way to associate Learners with a specific Manager Profile. Managers can group learners within a hierarchy regardless of the Training (Learner Access Roles) they are being assigned.

Profile/Nodes can represent:

  • Different Companies/Clients
  • Different Divisions within a Company
  • Different Offices
  • A corporate training hierarchy
  • Any way you would like to group your learners without having to refer to their specific training

Node Membership Types

None
There is no Node Membership associated with this Manager Profile. Child Profiles of a Profile with “None” as its Membership Option will only have “None” as their Node Membership option.

Same as Parent
Node Membership associated with this Manage Profile is the same as its Parent. Manager Profiles will have the ability to “All My Learners” without having to filter on a Learner Access roles. Child Profiles of a Profile with “Same as Parent” as its Membership Option will have “None” and “Same as Parent” as their Node Membership options.

Unique to this Node
Node Membership associated with this Manage Profile is Unique to this profile. Manager Profiles will have the ability to manage “All My Learners” without having to filter on a Learner Access roles.  Child Profiles of a Profile with “Unique to this Node” as its Membership Option will have ALL Node Membership options.

Node Membership Assignment

Learners are added as Members to the Active Profile by using:

  • My Learners > Bulk User Import
  • My Learners > Node Membership Assignment

When Learners are added as members to a Profile that has Unique Node Membership, they get added as members to that Profile and to ALL the parent Profiles.

When Learners are added as members to a Profile that does NOT have Unique Node Membership, they get added as members to ALL the parent Profiles that DO have Node Membership.

When Learners are dropped (using Node Membership Assignment) as members of a Profile that has Unique Node Membership, they get dropped as members from that Profile and ALL child Profiles that have Node Membership.

Node Membership Enrollment

When Managers enroll content to their Learners, it is assigned to the Learners of their Profile and to Learners of ALL child Profiles. This allows a corporate manager to assign content to the entire company, or to the entire Sales team.

Managers are able to segregate and filter their Learner enrollment by filtering on the Learner Access Roles associated with their Profile.
